We booked a family room which turned out to be extremely cramped and spartan, without even a chair. The level of cleanliness was shocking: the fridge and ice tray still had traces of dirt, and the bathroom was downright disgusting, with urine stains on the toilet seat and hair left in the shower. When I complained, the urine was cleaned but I was told the toilet had been used during a party and simply forgotten, with no apology at all. The swimming pool could have been a highlight, but it was spoiled by deafening music and even a child throwing stones into the water. We were abruptly thrown out of the pool because we were not wearing swimming caps, a rule never mentioned at check-in and not visible at the entrance we used. When I asked reception, I was only told it was “part of the rules” and offered caps for €4 each, again with no trace of empathy or apology. To add to the frustration, the pool attendant closed the pool before the official 7 pm time and treated us with outright hostility. One evening, a party with ear-shattering music right next to our room kept us awake until midnight, again with no prior notice from the hotel. At checkout, no one asked how our stay had been, no empathy, no courtesy, no consideration. It is clear that guest wellbeing and hospitality are not priorities here; the only person who showed any warmth was the elderly mother, who at least spoke kindly to us and our children. Sadly, the overall attitude was one of cashing in, not of caring. Throughout our entire stay we could only think about leaving as quickly as possible.
It was a shame that we stayed only for a night on a way to our next destination. The place is lovely and great service. Such a bargain! The pool looks amazing, unfortunately, we stayed too short to try it out. Really great that kitchen works long. As we arrived after 9 pm we still could have a dinner in the restaurant. Tasty pizzas and good selection of drinks. Friendly dog is a bonus :)
This is a beautifully hidden gem in a place you wouldn't expect. We visited this place because it was fairly on the route during our transit. And it ended up being a real shame that we could only stay 1 night. We were very kindly received by Giuseppe. He also speaks English and German, so communication is very smooth. The rooms are not very big, but the beds are lovely. We really didn't need more than that. The nice thing is that this location has its own swimming pool, where the locals also come. You can eat and drink while swimming in the cooling water. For small children, there is also a smaller pool. Otherwise, it's just a pool, without much fuss. Dinner was served from 8:30. That was a bit challenging with small children, but the service was really very good. Antonio, a friendly and hard working waiter, made sure we had a table full of delicious antipasti. That tasted so good that we were actually already too full for Giuseppe's delicious and homemade pizzas. We were also served a delicious primitivo wine, which Antonio proudly told us about. Craftsmanship at every level. And all at a really, really good price, which of course is also nice. It was actually a pity that we only ate pizza, because the other guests were served lots of goodies. Meanwhile, our son got another valuable life lesson from Giuseppe that he won't forget. Thank you so much for the good care! We really hope to come back here again.
We invited our friends from the area and started with five different appetizers that were amazing. We really wanted to try Giuseppes amazing Pizzadough, but saw too many other dishes that we wanted to try, so he made us a Foccacia with ham, that was out of this world! Two of us ordererd the pork fillet on a mushroom sauce that was incredible. My husband had the lamb, my friend the steak and both liked their dishes very much as well. Looking forward to coming back again! It was worth every penny! 👍😁
I was on business for a week in San Giovanni Rotondo and I found a gem. So much so that I wound up eating here every day. The food was amazing, delicious, and beautifully presented. The chief prepared home grown, organic, authentic food. Served by a staff that was fantastic. The waiter knew many details about the cellar’s wines. All of these elements add up to an absolutely wonderful experience that will add to my memories of San Giovanni Rotondo.
